The Birchtree Center is an expanding not-for-profit organization based in Newington, NH, that provides year-round educational services to students with autism ranging in age from 2-21 years. We are committed to helping children and youth with autism grow and flourish in our school, in their homes and communities.  We provide year round services to students with autism aged 2- 21 years in our school and/or in our Outreach Program.  Our approach incorporates best practices in Applied Behavior Analysis, Communication Sciences, Sensory Integration and Social Skill Development.  The Birchtree Center offers comprehensive training and supervision within a supportive educational team environment.

Associate Director / Director of Institutional Advancement

(full-time)

The Associate Director / Director of Institutional Advancement assists the Executive Director in providing professional leadership and management of the organization and in coordinating and implementing policies and procedures of the Center.  This position also oversees the advancement office and assists the Executive Director in raising annual, major, capital and deferred commitments through ongoing relationship building, solicitation, and stewardship towards existing and prospective donors to achieve the center’s fundraising goals.  The Associate  Director / Director of Institutional Advancement reports to and is responsible to the Executive Director in all matters.

Requirements: At least 5 years of senior management experience is required.   A graduate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent additional experience in senior management is also required.  Extensive knowledge of administrative procedures, financial management, and Special Education policies and procedures.  Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate internally with the staff and externally with funders, regulators, collaborators, media, and families.  Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-level organization with a budget comparable to Birchtree's budget.  Demonstrated ability to generate funds from diverse sources.  Proven networking and community outreach capabilities. Must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to The Birchtree Center’s mission to improve the lives of children and youth with autism, along with a strong commitment to working with individuals with autism utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis.   Computer literacy is required.  Applicant must consent to a criminal background check. Special Education Curriculum Specialist

(full-time) 

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Special Educator who is interested in providing leadership and direction in the areas of curriculum development and teaching to highly motivated professionals working 1:1 with students with autism in a small, private school.  The Special Education Curriculum Specialist develops, plans, implements and evaluates curriculum and instructional programs for students with autism aged 2-21 years.  The specialist works with Clinical Instructors and other staff to develop learning objectives, instructional strategies, outcomes and assessment techniques to support student learning in all academic areas.  The specialist works with Clinical Instructors and appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents and to evaluate and select appropriate curriculum materials.  The specialist reports directly to the Special Education Director. 

Requirements: A Master's degree in Special Education is required.  New Hampshire state certification in Special Education is required, along with experience working with children with autism and their families.  It is essential that candidates understand and appreciate the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, as well as possess knowledge of New Hampshire GLE/GSEs, alternative assessments, IEPs and Progress Reports.  At least five years of experience in special education is required, including extensive experience with curriculum development and substantial supervisory experience.

Occupational Therapist

(full-time) 

The Occupational Therapist assumes leadership in the creation, implementation and overall supervision of the OT program in our school.  Evaluation and collaboration with other team members facilitates the development of IEPs and individualized OT programs.  Consults with non occupational therapy support personnel (Clinical Instructors) to achieve student outcomes.  Provides continuing education and in-services for school personnel and parents.  

Requirements: 

  • 3-5 years of experience working with students with autism
  • a graduate degree from an accredited occupational therapy professional program 
  • registered and/or eligible for certification by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board
  • current license from the New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Governing Board
  • comfortable working within the framework of Applied Behavior Analysis
  • demonstrated ability to communicate internally with staff and families
  • effective spoken and written language skills
  • demonstrated ability to develop intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results
  • prioritizes and schedules work tasks independently
  • a strong and consistent work ethic
  • consent to a criminal background and DMV check
  • must be able to think and act quickly in a fast-paced environment

Human Resources Generalist

(part-time)

The Director of Human Resources is directly responsible for human resource plans and procedures for all personnel, currently 45, in a growing nonprofit organization.  Duties include personnel record-keeping and reporting, payroll administration, benefits administration, regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development, and other tasks as assigned. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Requirements: Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of personnel administration is required, along with effective oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.  A minimum of four years of experience in human resources is required, as well as a graduate degree in Human Resources from an accredited institution (additional experience in human resources may be substituted for a graduate degree).  Experience in non-profit and/or educational settings is also required.  Posted 6/22/10.  

 

Registered Nurse

(part-time)

The Registered Nurse serves as a consultant to The Birchtree Center’s year-round special educational day program for students with autism aged 2-21 years.  Duties include risk management, the development of health-related policies and procedures, and staff and parent training on health-related issues.  The Registered Nurse also serves as resource person in preparing health education curricula and may also provide occasional direct school nursing services to students with autism aged 2-21 years.  This is a part-time position; the hourly rate is competitive.

Requirements: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, with four or more years of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a school, special education, or pediatric setting.  A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is also required.  Understanding of autism and experience working with students with autism is a plus.  Applicant must consent to a criminal background check. Clinical Instructors

(part-time; flexible hours; weekends & evenings possible)

This is a part-time, flexible schedule position in our Outreach Program. The qualified candidate will provide 1:1 instruction to a student with autism in home and/or school, utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis principles.  Responsibilities may include assisting students with hygiene routines, meal skills, leisure skills and community-based goals. Outreach Clinical Instructors work 2-20 hours per week, mostly during afternoons, evenings, and weekends.  Training and supervision are provided.  A BA/BS in a related field is required.
