The Birchtree Center Recognizes Retiring Board Member Tim CoughlinMay 24, 2010The Birchtree Center is giving a fond farewell to Timothy Coughlin, who retired from its board of directors this April. Coughlin helped oversee five years of growth and development at the Seacoast-based nonprofit organization serving children and youth with autism. Timothy Coughlin is an attorney at Coughlin, Rainboth, Murphy and Lown of Portsmouth. He joined The Birchtree Center’s board in January 2005, three years after the organization’s founding. At that time, Birchtree’s special-education day-school program served sixteen students with autism. With guidance from Coughlin and his fellow board members, the organization grew to meet the rising need for autism services in northern New England. Birchtree expanded and enhanced its day-school program, developed a region-wide Outreach Program, and relocated in December 2009 from an overcrowded building in Portsmouth to a larger, custom-renovated facility in Newington. “Birchtree’s students and families are so fortunate to have the support of community leaders like Tim Coughlin,” says The Birchtree Center’s Executive Director, Christine Guarino. “Because Tim and others have given so generously of their time and expertise, our organization is improving the quality of life for many more children and youth with autism and their families today.”
